To showcase the creativity and technical skill of our second AI Agent Cohort while sparking a wider conversation on how AI agents can transform SMEs across Kenya and Africa.
The AI Agent Hackathon – SME Solutions Edition, hosted by Phoenix Analytics, is the culmination of a month-long build phase (October 15 – November 14) where student teams develop AI agentic workflows tailored for Kenyan small and medium enterprises (SMEs). On November 15, teams will present their projects to a panel of judges, sponsors, and the public. Attendees will pay a KES 1,000 entry fee to participate in the event and experience the innovations firsthand.
Students: Participants from the October & August AI Agent Cohort and other interested university/college students.
Sponsors: Companies, investors, and organizations seeking to support and discover AI innovations for SMEs.
Attendees: Entrepreneurs, tech enthusiasts, SME owners, and members of the public eager to learn about AI applications for business.
Student teams of 3–5 members will build AI agent workflows addressing real SME challenges in Kenya. Recommended topics include:
Smart Cash-Flow & Invoice Agent – Automates bookkeeping, forecasts cash shortages, and sends payment reminders.
Supplier Negotiator Agent – Requests quotes, compares prices, and negotiates automatically with suppliers.
Micro-Loan Eligibility Agent – Scores creditworthiness from mobile-money data and simulates micro-loans.
Customer Support Co-Pilot – Handles WhatsApp/Facebook Messenger sales inquiries and escalates complex issues.
SME Marketing Planner – Generates weekly marketing content plans and schedules posts.
Teams may extend or combine these ideas. They will reach key milestones including architecture planning, a mid-build demo, and final submissions.
